Typically I am weeks ahead of the game. I usually have the gifts done, banner made and themed items in the mail ready for the party. This year, however, I slightly dropped the ball. A week before his birthday, I'm running around looking for Pokemon themed party items. Big. Fat. Fail. According to the lady at Zurchers and U.S. Novelty and Party, Pokemon is one of those themes that goes in and out. Right now apparently, is the 'out' season. Because I'm just that lucky. Hahaha. Online had plenty of items, but I was out of time for that option.
So, like any other self respecting mom of this era, I turn to my imagination, Pinterest and Google to save my life. Work as been so stressful and packed lately, I didn't have a lot of prep time either. So this was literally fly by the seat of my pants kind of dealio. However, I think this made me more proud of the job I did :-)
The only crummy thing about this year was the custody schedule. This year, Mitchell's birthday was on a Friday that landed on our weekend. That has like, Never happened. We were super excited. The one thing I did do in advance was plan what kind of party we were doing, meaning this year we wanted to do a swim party for him. Jessica always gets the summer stuff like swimming and since Mitchell's is in the winter, he never really does. So we decided to do something a little summery for him. Unfortunately, because Martin Luther King, jr. Day was Owen's ex-wife's this year, that meant she got the entire surrounding weekend as well. :-( this sucked. So Our plans had to change a bit. We still got him for that day, just later than I had hoped and we had to take them back after. I felt bad giving him presents then saying he had to wait to play with them for 1/2 a week :-( part of the business of a blended fam.
But we still pulled it off nonetheless!! And he seemed to have a great time :-)
As I said before, there weren't very many options in the Pokemon party supplies so I had to hand make a bunch. I made a happy birthday banner of balloons and a pokeball in the middle
I found a great stencil to make the cupcakes wrapped in Pikachu paper!!
I bought yellow cups and drew Pikachu on the face of them to make it better than just plain old yellow :-)
The drinks were Gatorade but as far as this party was concerned, they were Health and Manna ;-)
Then We had snacks and candy. Jessica made a goal of not having candy this year, so she was a little ticked about the candy part. Sorry love! We'll keep it candy free on Your next birthday :-)
Lastly, we played pin the tail on the Pikachu hahaha. The rules of the game were pretty lost on the kids....but they all seemed to have fun anyway.
I feel bad I didn't get any pictures of them actually swimming. I admit the idea of my phone near a pool with the kids just didn't seem like a great idea at the time. But they had a blast! They played around the lazy river, I can't believe Mitchell can touch the floor this year!!! Last year he still couldn't. My cute little weed! Haha he's getting so big! Cousins came and played and ate and laughed. All in all, I call it a success :-)
